Exploring the Diverse Techniques of Printmaking

AARON JAMES POWERS
From the New Antlers Workshop in Western Massachusetts, Aaron James Powers works with both vintage mechanical and hand presses to create limited-edition silkscreened illustrations. Though each piece starts with a personal narrative, the natural figures and landscapes blending with geometric shapes invite the viewer to imprint their own storylines.
Instead of focusing on a single painting, the screen printing medium allows Aaron to yield many copies of an image to find their way into multiple collections. Whether it’s a personal piece printed in the dozens or a thousand concert posters, there’s always a great reward in watching the layers of colors and line work combine through the printing process.
After a childhood of drawing cartoons and spending all of his spare time in the art department at Genesee Valley Central School in Belmont, NY, Aaron furthered his fine art education at the Rochester Institute of Technology before starting a freelance career in design and photography editing. With fine art, sign making, and technical draftsmanship in his genes, Aaron always feels most connected to his purpose when holding a pencil and letting his imagination provide the art direction.
